Cadbury Castle - Camelot -
South Cadbury
Cadbury Castle once sat in Somerset. The visiting public can take this pathway up to the grassy summit where it overlooked the surrounding region.
The natural terrain would have served to deter some attackers. The slope of the land would have slowed a charging mob.
As far back as the 16th century A.D., this site has been referred to as the location of Camelot. At that time, John Leland had made the association.

Professor Leslie Alcock had done extensive excavations here and published his findings and opinions in several books.
Professor Alcock stated that this site was fortified and actively occupied in the fifth century A.D.
Looking northwestern of this plaque, one might see the Glastonbury Tor in the far distance.
