Chepstow Castle in Wales
Chepstow Castle took its post on the river Wye after the arrival of William the Conqueror.
Though this was six-hundred years after the time of the Arthur that Geoffrey Ashe describes, castles like this and shiny plate mail define most people's visions of this legendary time.
Taken at the far end of the keep, a view of the nearby bridge can be seen to the left.
The history established at this place has filled volumes of books, both fiction and nonfiction.

The lords of this castle controlled much more land than can be seen here.
In 1131, the lord of this castle founded the Tintern Abbey which is pictured below in its present decay.
